New Energy Economy is honored to host Karen Hao, bestselling author of Empire of AI, and an award-winning reporter who covers artificial intelligence and the AI industry. In 2025, Hao was honored on the TIME100 AI list and won an American Humanist Media Award in 2024. She co-hosts the BBC podcast The Interface and writes freelance for publications like More Perfect Union and The Atlantic. Hao also co-created the Pulitzer Center’s AI Spotlight Series, a program that trains thousands of journalists around the world on how to cover AI.
On Saturday, March 14th, at 11:00AM New Energy Economy and co-host Collected Works Bookstore will host the author in Santa Fe at the St. John's United Methodist Church at 1200 Old Pecos Trail (and virtually via zoom) for a conversation about how Blackstone's proposed buyout of PNM interfaces with the national and international AI frenzy, and how all of it could impact New Mexicans and humanity writ large.
At 4:00PM, New Energy Economy, Youth United for Climate Crisis Action (YUCCA) and Defend NM Water will host Hao in Albuquerque at the Juno Brewery at 1501 1st St. NW. Refreshments available for purchase.
